Untucked Woman: Joanna Waterfall

Joanna, what keeps you on the go?

I run a company called Yellow Co. we hold an annual conference and have a membership platform. Especially during conference season, I'm always running around, picking up things, talking to vendors, moving and lifting things- it's a lot of physical labor! During the "off" season I'm doing a lot of relationship building and meeting with other creatives. I'm managing a remote team and always trying to keep up with what's happening in every branch of the biz!

What's your day-in-the-life?

My day very much changes depending on the season I'm in. Currently, I wake up around 8 (yes, I'm not a morning person AT ALL. Don't talk to me until I've had my coffee) I get up, make my coffee (priorities) then head outside for a leisurely walk around my neighborhood. I pray, breathe and focus on giving the day to God. I'm currently working from home, so after my walk I change, clean up around my "office" area (I can't think with a messy space!) grab my coffee and get to work! Mondays and Wednesdays are for meetings and phone calls, while I keep Tuesdays and Thursdays for the deep work that can't be interrupted. Fridays I do a mix of everything and am catching up from the things I didn't finish throughout the week, but I always try to keep room for creativity on Fridays!

What's your favorite piece to wear for work?

If I could wear yoga pants, sneakers and a hoodie everyday I would be oh so happy! Since that's not socially the best way to go, this time of year I usually wear a big comfy sweater with some jeans and boots. I'm all about the comfort. :)

What's one of the biggest challenges about your job?

The learning curve! Doing something totally new is always a challenge. There are so many things I'm learning on a daily basis. I'm learning tech, leadership, management, delegation, a TON. It's not easy!

What's one of the most rewarding parts about your job?

Getting to see the impact on women's lives. It's the most rewarding thing to know you played a small part in a small, positive change in the world.

What does an Untucked life mean to you?

It means being able to be completely yourself, running after your dreams, and not being held down by anything! Clothing included :) It means hustling hard and looking good while doing it!

From your experience, what can we learn today?

I'd say to never be afraid of change and learning new things- in fact, embrace it. You will fail along the way and things won't always turn out the way you thought, but it's all about the journey you're on, and what it teaches you along the way. If you're always learning, in my eyes, that's the greatest reward you can give yourself.
