Untucked Woman: Litty Matthew

Litty, what keeps you on the go?

I'm the co-funder and co-maker at Greenbar distillery in Los Angeles, one of the most unique workplaces. It's an active environment where we make the largest portfolio of organic spirits. It's got offices, a beautiful bar and tasting room and an operations floor with copper stills, large tanks, wooden barrels and an automated bottling room. I can't think of many jobs where I can wear heels to work and switch into a pair of safety shoes, which I keep under my desk, for an inspection.

What's your day-in-the-life?

What's great about being co-founder and co-maker at Greenbar is the variety of activities. A typical day could include creating new products, tasting all the items in production (someone's gotta do it); showing visitors what we do; making cocktails, sweeping the floor and paying bills (sigh).

What's your favorite piece to wear for work?

Comfort is key. Having said that, I enjoy being stylish. It cheers me up to put on something cute. My clothing has to be tough enough to take what the distillery can dish but also look nice enough to visit a client for happy hour.

What's one of the biggest challenges about your job?

Being a business owner means not having a separation between personal and work life. The key is to accept that. Better yet, embrace it.

What's one of the most rewarding parts about your job?

Creating something that delights drinkers. I love to see people enjoying themselves.

What does an Untucked life mean to you?

Being who you are.

From your experience, what can we learn today?

Wearing something comfortable helps. Early on in my work life, a colleague told to only keep items in my wardrobe that made me feel my very best. I've taken that advice and expanded it to other aspects of my life. I try to only occupy my energy in things that make me feel good about myself.

Lots happening with Greenbar these days! Check out what Litty is up to below:
